A leader of Tap dance in Australia, Winston Morrison is the founder and creator of MelbourneTapDance and the Australian Tap Dance Festival – the benchmark for tap dance in Australia and Asia.
Winston has danced at many events and venues including Wangaratta Jazz Festival, Tap City at Peter Nortons’ Symphony Space on Broadway (New York), St. Regis Hotel in Singapore, FINA World Swimming Championships, Crown Casino (Melbourne), Chapel of Chapel, most of Melbourne’s theatres and street shows. Additionally Winston has appeared on TV representing tap on “Australias Got Talent”, “The Today Show” and ABC’s “Sunday Arts Program” with Grant Swift.
Winston has had influences from teachers such as Grant Swift, Derick Grant, Kendrick Jones, Jared Grimes, Dr. Bunny Briggs, Dr. Harold Cromer, Ivery Wheeler, Marshall Davis Jnr, Ayodele Casele, Dormeshia Sumbry-Edwards, Michelle Dorrance, Jason Samuels Smith, Chloe Arnold, Dianne Walker, Ted Levy,Barbara Duffy and Savion Glover. His obvious passion for tap, taking people to the next level and his desire to share and give all he knows is what makes him one of the best people to learn from
Winston has a wide knowledge of famous tap dancers and their steps that he performs and passes on to keen tap dancers. His study of the greats, passion for taking people to the next level, the desire to share and give all he knows is what makes him one of the best people to learn from.
