FAQ

Got any questions? We have the answers!

NEW STUDENTS

  • Yes - we are a 17 years and over studio. However, we are able to organise privates for any age. Email info@maddance.com.au to inquire or fill out our contact form.

  • We have a class for you! All you need is the desire to dance, learn and enjoy the journey!

If you are totally new to dance, start at an absolute beginner class and give yourself a month to enjoy the style.

TIP: It is always good to remember that we have a stack of dancers that have been coming for some time. Do not be intimidated by more advanced dancers, even in ‘absolute beginner’ or ‘all level’ classes - everyone is here to learn!

  • Any time is a great time to start at MDH!

In most classes, the choreography changes weekly so you will always have something new to learn.

  • We encourage you to wear clothing that you're comfortable in and that allows you to move! For Ballet, Contemporary and technique classes, tighter fitting clothes are recommended to get the most out of your class. Bring a pair of clean socks for Contemporary and Ballet.

  • We allow 2 weeks in 'makeshift' footwear (such as socks for Ballet and trainers for Jazz), but after this we recommend you to dance in correct footwear.

    • Ballet flats for Ballet

    • Bare feet/socks for Contemporary

    • Jazz shoes for Jazz

    • Trainers for Hip Hop styles

    • Tap shoes for Tap (we have tap shoes for hire at the front desk).

If you need guidance, just ask your teacher, or our staff!

DISCOUNTS: Grab a BLOCH (dancewear store) discount card from the front desk.

  • We recommend you bring a water bottle to class (we have a cold water tap but do not sell water bottles).

Bring a spare shirt and/or a gym towel as you’ll most likely be working up a sweat!

  • Before you come in for your first class, we ask that you set up a profile on our website or on out free app (Mad Dance House). Once set up, this will allow you to view our timetable, book into classes, pay for classes and view your schedule.

To get started, click on the white arrow that says "Book a Class" on the top right of the screen and follow the prompts!

If in doubt, just rock up 5-10 minutes before your class and our reception staff will get you all set up.

OUR CLASSES

  • In most cases you don't need to book ahead to attend a class.

Our more popular classes can fill up very quickly, however, so to ensure you don't miss out we recommend you book online or through our free app to secure your spot.

It’s also way more convenient to book through the app each week!

  • You must cancel 8hrs before your classes to cancel and get your class back on your pass.

  • You are able to hire a studio - email info@maddance.com.au to inquire.

  • If you want to improve your technique quickly, private lessons are a fantastic option. We offer both private one on one lessons and private group lessons (with up to 4 students) with our teachers.

  • The simple answer is no. Everyone will need their own account and agree to the terms and conditions of the studio. This is also a way for us to keep track of who has signed into class.

  • Yes you can! These make perfect gifts for a special occasion. You can choose to purchase class passes as gift cards here

  • We have a 10-minute cut off from when class starts. We do not allow students entering into class late.
This is so that you do not disrupt the teacher and class, and more importantly limit injury risk to yourself.

If you are pass the cut off time, please DO NOT sneak into class!

  • Before you enter a class, you should have checked in either on the ipad or at reception. If you do not check in, staff will have to stop the class to figure out who hasn’t checked in and cut into learning time.

You must pay before you take any classes!

  • Like any classes, please be spatially aware and make sure that you have enough room for yourself and the people around you. If you are bumping into someone, this is a hazard and may be a sign that the class is not suitable for you. Try a different level.

If you are totally new to a level or a teacher’s style, we recommend that you stand at the back or to the side.

When it comes to groups, please move to the side of the room and don’t stand at the back.

  • Are you wanting to push and challenge yourself in dance? You are more than welcome to join higher level classes if you are able to keep up.

As much as we want to encourage everyone to level up, it is also our duty of care to let students know if they need to take a step back and train more in the level below. It’s not a race - take your time!

  • Choreography in class belongs and is the IP (Intellectual Property) of the teacher. Normally the teacher will allocate a filming group, otherwise please ask permission from the teacher and the students around you if you can film.

If you film, please tag the teacher, the studio and the person who has filmed.

Please make sure you are not filming any other students without their permission, unless you are recording during a ‘filming’ group.

  • Respect boundaries and communicate politely when in class. We are all here to dance!

  • We encourage you to put your phone away during class, as it can be You may check it during drink breaks, but otherwise, switch off and enjoy being present.
