MDH is dedicated to supporting the Brisbane dance scene and creating opportunities for local dancers. When you join us for a dance class or performance, you're not only experiencing the incredible movement, creativity and culture of our city, but also directly supporting the growth of local dance initiatives. Together, let's keep the Brisbane Dance Scene alive and thriving!

2024 RISE UP GRANT AND RESIDENCY (STREET STYLE AND COMMERCIAL ARTISTS)

The Mad Dance House RISE UP residency and grant provides Brisbane STREET STYLE ARTISTS with financial support of 1 x $3000 grant and free studio hire for 3 WEEKS (20hrs a week max.)

SUCCESSFUL APPLICANTS WILL BE ABLE TO SHOWCASE THEIR WORK AT AN MDH EVENT OR CHOOSE TO DO A PRIVATE SHOWING AT THE STUDIO.

Who Can Apply?

The RISE UP residency and grant is designed for people who:

  • Are residing in Brisbane in 2024

  • Have an Australian Business Number

  • Have Public Liability

This grant is NOT for you if you:

  • Are an educational institution

  • Are a government agency or state owned company

What Is The Scope Of The Grant?

The funds can be used:

  • For supporting ongoing creative developments

  • To help build a new project from the ground up

  • As wages for yourself or others involved

  • For other personnel such as production costs or a director, for example

    The 2 x $1,500 Rise Up Grant was awarded to Georgia Pierce and Asher Bowen-Saunders.Asher Bowen-Saunders - Asher created ‘Call To The Stone’ a dance film that speaks to where we are as a species and how we’ve arrived here; our collective narrative told with gentle potency to bring awareness, lighten our spirits and walk each other home to our connected Origin. What is it like to inhabit your body? What world do you ache for? Watch 'Call To The Stone'

    Georgia Pierce - Georgia used the funds to use the studio to workshop and create a solo experimental dance piece. She also was able to use the money to pay her brother, who produced the music for her piece.Watch Georgia's Piece at HYPE NIGHT

  • 2018 $10,000 Recipient: Sammie Williams

    Sammie Williams’ further developed One Way: Hip Hop, Breaking and Contemporary Dance Theatre Show, which showed at La Boite Round Theatre.

    The 2 x $1,500 Rise Up Grant was awarded to Charles Ball and Wanida Serce.

    Charles Ball - Charles used the studios for 2 weeks to develop a 20min dance piece with Sam Evans. This fused both Contemporary and Street dance together.

    Wanida Serce - Wanida used the grant money to fund her trip to Japan so that she was able to dive into the culture and train in the style of Waacking.
