FAQ
Got any questions? We have the answers!
NEW STUDENTS
-
Yes! We are a 17 years and over studio. We are however able to organise private classes for any age.
Email info@maddance.com.au to inquire or fill out our contact form.
-
We have a class for you! All you need is the desire to dance, learn and enjoy the journey!
If you are totally new to dance, start with ‘Absolute Beginner’ level classes.
We recommend new dancers also complete an Intro Course, which are offered consistently throughout the year. Click here to find out more!
TIP: It is good to remember that many of our dancers have been coming to class for some time. Do not be intimidated by more advanced dancers, even in ‘Absolute Beginner’ or ‘All Level’ classes - everyone is here to learn!
-
Any time is a great time to start at MDH!
Drop-in classes are offered all year, so you can begin whenever you wish. In most classes, the choreography and technique changes weekly so you will always have something new to learn.
If you are wanting to start with an Intro Course, check the ‘Courses’ tab to see when the next term begins.
-
We encourage you to wear clothing that you're comfortable in and that allows you to move! For Ballet, Contemporary and technique classes, tighter fitting clothes are recommended to get the most out of your class. Bring a pair of clean socks for Contemporary and Ballet.
-
Wear closed shoes that support your ankles and feet (sneakers are fine) for most classes! For certain classes, specific footwear is required:
Ballet flats for Ballet (you can take class in socks for a couple of weeks, but we ask that you invest in proper footwear for regular attendance)
Bare feet/socks for Contemporary
Tap shoes for Tap (we have tap shoes for hire at the front desk)
Heels for Heels classes (Well-fitted with ankle support. Chunky heels are ideal for beginners - you can build up to thin heels like stilettos as you progress).
If you need guidance, just ask your teacher, or our staff!
DISCOUNTS: Go to BLOCH (dancewear store) in Newstead and tell them you are a Mad Dance House student for 10% off!
-
We recommend you bring a water bottle to class (we have a cold water tap but do not sell water bottles).
Bring a spare shirt and/or a gym towel as you’ll most likely be working up a sweat!
OUR CLASSES
-
In most cases you don't need to book ahead to attend a class.
Our more popular classes can fill up very quickly, however, so to ensure you don't miss out we recommend you book online or through our free app to secure your spot.
It’s also way more convenient to book through the app each week!
-
You must cancel 8 hours before your class begins to get a credit for the class. Please cancel through the website or mobile app or reach out via email or phone if you are experiencing extenuating circumstances.
-
You are able to hire a studio - Email info@maddance.com.au to inquire.
We also offer shared practice spaces most evenings between 4:30pm-8:30pm. These are available to book on the schedule (‘Open Studio’ sessions).
-
Yes you can! These make perfect gifts for a special occasion. You can choose to purchase class passes as gift cards here.
STUDIO ETIQUETTE
-
We have a 10-minute cut off from when class starts. We do not allow students entering into class late.
This is so that you do not disrupt the teacher and class, and more importantly to limit the injury risk to yourself. -
Before you enter a class, you should have checked in either on the ipad or at reception. If you do not check in, staff will have to stop the class to figure out who hasn’t checked in and this will cut into learning time.
-
Are you wanting to push and challenge yourself in dance? You are more than welcome to join higher level classes if you are able to keep up.
As much as we want to encourage everyone to level up, it is also our duty of care to let students know if they need to take a step back and train more in the level below. It’s not a race - take your time!
-
Choreography in class belongs and is the IP (Intellectual Property) of the teacher. Normally the teacher will allocate a filming group, otherwise please ask permission from the teacher and the students around you before filming.
If you film, please tag the teacher, the studio and the person who has filmed. Please make sure you are not filming any other students without their permission, unless you are recording during a ‘filming’ group.
-
Respect boundaries and communicate politely when in class. We are all here to dance!
-
We encourage you to put your phone away during class, as it can be distracting. You may check it during drink breaks, but otherwise, switch off and enjoy being present.
-
