mdh rise up GRANT RECIPIENTS
The ‘Rise Up’ Grant is awarded by MDH to independent local artists to help them create, showcase and upskill. This is an initiative dedicated to giving back to the local dance community and MDH is proud to have supported many artists in their journeys.

BUDDY MALBASIAS
2026 RISE UP GRANT RECIPIENTBuddy received a $10,000 cash grant and studio residency to develop his work towards an informal showing at the ‘Ascend’ showcase on September 5th, 2026 as part of the inaugural TranscenDance Festival.

FLOSS MOLONEY
2024 RISE UP GRANT RECIPIENTFloss received $3,000 and 3 weeks of studio residency at Mad Dance House to produce her short film “White Picket Fence”. White Picket Fence aimed to “...explore the societal pressures and expectations placed upon emerging adults, particularly concerning career choices and the traditional notion of success”.

Created “AWESOME: A STATE OF WONDER AND FEAR”.

Asher Bowen-Saunders
Asher created ‘Call To The Stone’ a dance film that speaks to where we are as a species and how we’ve arrived here; our collective narrative told with gentle potency to bring awareness, lighten our spirits and walk each other home to our connected Origin. What is it like to inhabit your body? What world do you ache for?Georgia Pierce
Georgia used the funds to fund her studio residency and create a solo experimental dance piece. She also engaged her brother, who produced the music for her piece. -

Sammie Williams
Sammie Williams further developed “One Way”, a Hip Hop, Breaking and Contemporary Dance Theatre Show, which showed at La Boite Round Theatre.Grant Recipients (2 x $1,500)
The 2 x $1,500 Rise Up grants were awarded to Charles Ball and Wanida Serce.Charles Ball
Charles used the studios for 2 weeks to develop a 20-minute dance piece with Sam Evans, experimenting with the fusion of Contemporary and street dance together.Wanida Serce
Wanida used the grant money to fund her trip to Japan so that she was able to dive into the culture and train in the style of Waacking.
