MDH CLASS LEVELS GUIDE

  • LEVEL 1 - ABSOLUTE BEGINNER

Entry level! If you are completely new to dance, or wanting to learn a new style, this is for you! MDH recommends all new students complete an Intro Course at this level. In fact, some styles only offer the Absolute Beginner level as a course, in order to properly cover the techniques you need to progress.

  • LEVEL 2 - BEGINNER

If you have some experience in the style or have completed enough Absolute Beginner level classes to understand your fundamentals, this is the next step! Teachers will expect students taking Beginner level classes to have learned the basic techniques of the style.

  • LEVEL 3 - INTERMEDIATE

If you have significant experience in the style and are not feeling sufficiently challenged at the Beginner level, this is the level for you. We recommend speaking to your teacher before progressing to this level, as strong fundamentals are assumed in Intermediate classes.

  • LEVEL 4 - ADVANCED

If you are a professional dancer or if you have progressed beyond the Intermediate level, Advanced classes may be your jam! Expect to be challenged in these classes that aim to elevate your dance to the highest level.

  • ALL LEVELS

All Level classes are suitable for dancers of all experience levels but primarily cater to Levels 2-3 (Beginner & Intermediate). If you are totally new to dance, we recommend completing an Intro Course or taking Absolute Beginner (Level 1) classes before attending All Level classes (except for Fitness and Flexibility classes).

  • EXTRA TIPS

Some classes may list a range of levels, e.g. Intermediate/Advanced (Levels 3-4). This means that students of both levels are welcome to the class.

Different styles of dance have different technical requirements - levels are relative to the style. Being Intermediate level in Choreography classes does not mean you are also Intermediate level in a Jazz class, for example.

Pace yourself – challenging yourself is great for growth, but if you skip the basics, you will hinder your progression in the long run. We often see Intermediate and Advanced dancers still taking Beginner level classes to work on their foundations. Trust the process and have fun!
